The Masterclass is targeted at professional actors and dancers.

We are happy to present the rare opportunity to work on the floor in a masterclass with Aurélien Bory, the director of the WAVES Festival opening performance.

Aurélien Bory directs the Compagnie 111, founded in 2000 and located in Toulouse. He has developed a “physical theatre”, a crossbreeding between different, converging fields in the performing arts theater, circus, dance, visual arts and music.

His shows have toured all around the world and his international fame began with Plan B (2003) and Plus ou moins l’infini (2005) created in collaboration with Phil Soltanoff.

Aurélien Bory never ceases to challenge space through movement. And vice versa. Objects and bodies endure the mechanical laws of the space as much as they reveal it, bend it, distort it. A true craftsman of the stage, he uses and often melts together its various languages, every single genre, from the burlesque to the tragic, and all the skills at his disposal, from traditional tools to new technologies. In addition to his own creations, he has also directed two operas.

The masterclass will focus on Aurelién Bory’s approach to physical theatre and give an insight in the training behind the unique artistic language on stage.

Presented in collaboration with The Danish National School of Performing Arts Further Education (DDSKS – Efteruddannelsen).

About Aurélien Bory:
Born in 1972 in Colmar, France, Aurélien Bory is a director and founder of Compagnie 111. He currently lives in Toulouse (France) and works internationally. Before joining Le Lido, the Circus Arts Center of Toulouse, he studied physics in Strasbourg. After his training, he decided to join the company of Mladen Materic, Tatoo Theater, as an actor-performer. In 2000, he founded Compagnie 111. He has developed a «physical theatre» hybrid, a crossbreeding of different arts: circus, dance, theater, visual art and music.

In New York, Bory’s work has been presented by The New Victory Theater (Plan B and IJK), and then, by BAM several times (The 7 Boards of Skills, Sans Objet, and recently Plexus, a collaboration with the performer-dancer Kaori Ito).
